What happens at the Visa Application Centre
Your arrival at the Visa Application Centre (VAC)
- Please bring your Appointment Confirmation and QR Code with you (this can be found on your appointment letter or can be downloaded from your VFS account). You will need to show this to security before you are admitted to the centre.
- Arrive a few minutes before your booked appointment to allow for security checks.
- If you arrive more than 15 minutes early for your appointment, you may have to wait until your scheduled appointment time before being admitted to the centre.
- If you arrive after your scheduled appointment time, we may not be able to accommodate you, and you may need to book a new appointment.
- Customers who need help should advise security staff on arrival at the centre.
Your appointment
- If you are not exempt from providing biometrics you must attend the appointment for your visa application. You cannot send someone in your place.
- Please bring your valid passport. If you are applying for permission to travel to Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar or applying for an EUSS travel permit, your passport must contain at least 1 blank visa page.
- Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult (18+), this cannot be a member of VFS Global staff.
Providing your biometric information
- You will need to provide biometric information (your fingerprints and photograph) at the centre.
- We will use a digital fingerprint scanner to take images of all 10 fingerprints. The scanner does not use inks, liquids or chemicals and will not mark your skin. Please make sure your fingers are free from decoration, cuts, abrasions or other markings as they may affect your ability to provide acceptable fingerprint scans.
-
We will also take a digital photograph of your face. The photograph must capture your full face - you must not have anything covering your face or eyes and you must not wear a head covering (unless it is for religious or medical reasons).
If you are applying for a visa on behalf of a child under 5 years old, they must attend an appointment and have their digital photograph taken. They do not have to provide fingerprints.
Providing your supporting documents
- You can upload your documents yourself online after booking your appointment and before providing your biometric information at the visa application centre. Or you can bring your documents with you and pay to use our Document Upload Assistance service.
- If you choose to upload your documents yourself online, it is recommended that you submit colour copies of your passport or travel document showing evidence of travel to other countries and any official observations or amendments.
- If you have paid for, or plan to use our Document Upload Assistance service you must bring good quality A4 or US letter size copies of your supporting documents to the Visa Application Centre.
